Gerona farm is located in the rural area of Cerro Azul Páramo in the Cienaga municipality in the Sierra Nevada de Sanra Marta of Magdalena department, Colombia. The farm has a size of 24 hectares, of which 22.5 hectares are conserved forest and 8 hectares of Castillo under-shade coffee.

Highlights

I) Gerona farm is part of the potential connectivity area of habitat for the jaguar and other fauna and flora wild species.

II) The forest areas within the property connect with other forest areas, which increases connectivity at the landscape level.

III) The forest agroecosystem allow several mammal species can be found within the area, such as populations of puma, central american agouti and lowland paca.

About the family

Due Mr. Jose’s family love for coffee growing, they have continued with this deep-rooted tradition in the area. Today, Gerona farm has become a project focused on shade coffee and biodiversity conservation. As a result, 11 species of mammals have been recorded on the property and are being protected, including the puma and jaguar observed by workers on the forest.
